Banyak buku selesai sebagai highlight kuning.
Buku ditutup.
Lalu selesai.
Gue pengen nyoba sesuatu yang berbeda.
Waktu baca The Ideological Brain, ada satu ide yang terus nyangkut di kepala.
Buku ini bukan cuma ngomong soal politik.
Bukan cuma soal orang keras kepala.
Tapi soal bagaimana otak membangun model dunia.
Dan yang lebih penting…
kenapa model itu susah sekali dilepas.
Misalnya begini.
Lo percaya dunia bekerja dengan aturan A.
Selama bertahun-tahun aturan itu berhasil.
Setiap pengalaman menguatkannya.
Otak mulai hemat energi.
“Gak usah mikir lagi.”
“Ini udah benar.”
Lalu suatu hari…
dunia berubah.
Masalahnya bukan dunia berubah.
Masalahnya…
otak masih menjalankan software lama.
Disitu gue kepikiran.
Kalau cuma baca teori…
orang bakal bilang,
“Iya ya, menarik.”
Besok lupa.
Gimana kalau teori ini dibikin jadi pengalaman?
Akhirnya gue bikin game kecil.
Namanya:
Game ini kelihatannya sederhana.
Lo cuma disuruh mencocokkan kartu.
Awalnya semuanya terasa masuk akal.
Lalu…
diam-diam aturan berubah.
Tidak ada yang memberi tahu.
Yang berubah bukan kartunya.
Yang berubah adalah dunia.
Disinilah eksperimennya dimulai.
Ada orang yang langsung sadar.
“Oh… ternyata sekarang bukan warna lagi.”
Ada yang butuh beberapa kali salah.
Ada yang terus memakai aturan lama.
Bahkan setelah berkali-kali diberi feedback.
Yang menarik…
game ini bukan mengukur IQ.
Bukan tes kepribadian.
Bahkan bukan diagnosis psikologi.
Yang diamati cuma satu hal:
Seberapa cepat otakmu bersedia mengubur keyakinan lama ketika realitas berubah.
Karena ternyata…
salah itu ada macam-macam.
Ada salah karena belum tahu.
Ada salah karena panik.
Ada salah karena sedang mencari pola.
Dan ada salah yang paling menarik.
Salah karena…
masih membela dunia yang sudah tidak ada.
Makanya di dalam game gue tambahin beberapa metrik yang terinspirasi dari buku itu.
Misalnya:

Berapa lama sebuah keyakinan lama akhirnya benar-benar “dikubur”.
Bukan kapan lo pertama kali benar.
Tapi kapan otak berhenti mencoba kembali ke aturan lama.
Ada juga:
Perseveration Error
Kesalahan karena terus memakai aturan sebelumnya.
Bukan karena bodoh.
Tapi karena otak terlalu percaya pada peta lamanya.
Lalu ada lagi yang menurut gue menarik.
Error Personalization.
Feedback yang sama…
buat sebagian orang cuma informasi.
Buat sebagian lain terasa seperti serangan.
Padahal game cuma bilang:
“BEEP. Salah.”
Yang berubah bukan bunyinya.
Yang berubah adalah cara otak memaknainya.
Semakin gue ngerjain game ini…
gue sadar sesuatu.
Ideologi ternyata bukan cuma soal politik.
Bukan soal kiri.
Bukan soal kanan.
Bukan soal agama.
Bukan soal ekonomi.
Ideologi adalah…
hubungan antara keyakinan dan kemampuan menerima kenyataan baru.
Dan menurut gue…
itu relevan buat semuanya.
Investor.
Founder.
Penulis.
Designer.
Orang tua.
Bahkan hubungan sehari-hari.
Kadang kita gak mempertahankan ide…
Kita mempertahankan identitas yang menempel pada ide itu.
Jadi buat gue…
The Ideological Brain bukan berakhir jadi ringkasan buku.
Dia berubah jadi pertanyaan.
Kalau realitas berubah hari ini…
seberapa cepat otak gue berani mengaku bahwa peta lama sudah tidak berlaku lagi?
Kalau pertanyaan itu bisa dirasakan lewat sebuah permainan sederhana, mungkin sebuah buku sudah berhasil melakukan sesuatu yang lebih besar daripada sekadar memberi pengetahuan. Ia mengubah cara kita melihat cara kita sendiri berpikir.
